Root Beer and Banana: by Sarah Sullivan, Historical Fiction
On a hot summer day Squirt and her Grandfather take a trip to Mister Mac’s General Store for a cold ice pop. While deciding what favor she wants, root beer or banana, Squirt meets a little girl named Miracle. Miracle has also come to the store to buy an ice pop but she only has a nickel and ice pops cost a dime. Squirt and Miracle become friends and with a little help from grandfather they both get ice pops one root beer and the other banana. In a classroom I would use this book as a fun enjoyable story for student’s to read. After reading this book you could also talk some about friendship.
